KFH takes on Scafell Pike
7th July, 2022
This past Saturday, 2 July, 13 KFH staff took on the brave challenge of hiking up Scafell Pike (the highest mountain in England) to raise money for our charity partner, London Youth. The group fundraised over £3,350, all of which will go towards helping diverse community youth groups and clubs across London.
Here's what Rachel Carroll, Sales Regional Office Coordinator, had to say:
"We all arrived in Lancashire on Friday to a converted barn in the middle of nowhere, with stunning views and a bubbling hot tub. After we unpacked our bags, we had a lovely evening with drinks and music.
Then at 6am on Saturday, we raised our weary heads, piled into the cars, and made our way to the beast that is Scafell Pike.
When we set off, we were all gobsmacked by how beautiful and daunting this mountain was. At one point, we reached a waterfall and Kylo (the dog) refused to go through, so Laura, Holly and some other kind climbers carried Kylo through in waist-deep water!
The climb was long and hard. There was no real path, just boulders that you had to scramble over, and the mist was coming in thick and fast.
Two hours later, we reached the summit and were met with Malcolm who had been there for a while – waiting for us and shivering – looking like he needed to call mountain rescue! We very quickly decided that we wanted to get back to the bottom (where the pub was).
The way down was even harder as it was slippery, and our leg muscles had given up on us. But we soon got back and enjoyed a well-deserved cold beverage.
We all questioned why we were doing this at some point during the day, and admittedly we all had to dig deep, but we're so proud to have raised over £3,350 for London Youth. We all did it and it was such a big personal achievement. When you're in the most beautiful landscape ever, climbing a mountain with people that you know will always help you, the world seems an amazingly positive place!
Thank you to all who took part and to all that sponsored us."
